About the Editor-in-Chief

Professor Zou is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of IJGE. He has been a mining engineering Professor in Dalhousie University since 1993, specializing in rock mechanics and ground stability control. Prior to joining the university, he worked as a Ground Control Engineer in Kidd Creek Mine for three years. He has more than 30 years of combined experience in industry, research and teaching. As a mining faculty he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised graduate students in Masters and PhD levels. After serving as the Chair of the former Mining Engineering Department he became the founding Head of the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering from 2005 to 2010. He has been very active in research and has engaged in many research projects in his field over the past three decades. His research is primarily focused on ground stability, ground failure and damage control in geotechnical engineering and in surface and underground excavations. In recently, he has also collaborated with overseas researchers in projects on surface geohazards to tackel issues in debris flows and landslides associated with by earthquakes.

Professor Zou has published over 70 papers in referred journal and conference proceedings plus many technical reports. His journal papers can typically be found in the International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Science, Journal of Applied Geophysics, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering. A book on "applied rock mechanics and ground stability" was published in 2015. In recent years, he has also played a pivot role in organizing several international conferences in the related fields such as mine hazards, debris flows and sustainable development.
